The genetic predisposition to cancer and the advent of targeted therapy ushered in the growth of genetic testing and genetic counseling in oncology. Genetic counseling for germline mutations and for somatic mutations have both grown exponentially in the last decades. Leading oncologists and genetics stakeholders strongly recommend that qualified oncology providers conduct predictive genetic testing. It is therefore expected that advanced practitioners, who are on the forefront of oncology patient care, play a key role in genetic counseling by developing an expertise through advancing their education and practice.

The Palliative Care Task Force presents this 4-part online educational module series addressing the use of opioids in gynecologic oncology.  The series is aimed at practitioners in gynecologic oncology and reviews best practices and cases relevant to the use of opioids in women's cancer care. The series starts with an introduction to opioids and different times through the course of cancer care in which opioids are used.  Part 2 is a practical case-based primer on opioid conversion, escalation, and rotation.  Part 3 focuses on common toxicities of opioid use.  And Part 4 concludes with a review of the current landscape of the opioid epidemic and regulatory issues.  We hope this series will be a practical guide to gynecologic oncology providers regarding their use of opioids for women with cancer.

This session spans studies of promoter methylation as a predictor of treatment response and models describing the impact of burnout on physician productivity. What these presentations have in common is their focus on maximizing efficiency and efficacy to optimize patient care – by matching treatments to patients most likely to benefit and by sustaining physician productivity in our field.

Presentations describing alternative treatment strategies or deviations from accepted guidelines for cervix cancer will be presented. A molecular basis for racial disparities in endometrial cancer outcomes will be presented.

The Society for Gynecologic Oncology (SGO), the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology (APSHO) and Harborside Medical Education invite allied health practitioners in the subspecialty of gynecologic oncology to a dinner symposium during SGO’s 48th Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer. This course is geared towards Advanced Practitioners (APs) such as nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical pharmacists, and clinical nurse specialists.

You asked for more and we listened: Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) is the wave of the future for many specialties, including Gynecologic Oncology.  The ERAS session at the 2016 Annual Meeting generated much conversation and requests for further engagement on the subject, so this series will teach you the history, guidelines and tools for implementation of an ERAS program at your institution.
